The Anatomy Of Our Frames

The Anatomy Of Our Frames: What You Need To Know When Placing An Order

We talk about our frames all the time, all day long and we still have to double check ourselves from time to time.  So we know you might get confused from time to time when placing orders.  We strive to make ordering simple for you all and create great combos that you can order as is-but should your creative juices feel a need, a need for speed, then we want you get exactly what you want!

Lets discuss the anatomy of our frames! When you place an order, you’ll be asked about the size, base color, pattern, pattern color, trim, trim color, and orientation.  Let’s go through what this means.

Size: Pretty self explanatory. What size is the photo you are framing?  8×10, 11×14, 5×5? And then you need to pick either our 4″ or 6″ width.  Confused about the width? Check out this post.

Base Color: The color you want “under” the pattern.  Hint: It’s the color that goes on first.

Pattern and Pattern Color: Select the pattern you want on your frame and then what color you want it in.

Trim and Trim Color: The trim is a separate wood piece that we glue, nail, and add to the base frame itself. It’s what actually houses the photo, laying on top of the finished frame.  We worked super hard this last year to get custom trim styles created just for our DGF clients – so that we KNOW we’re adding pieces that are not only beautifully made but will add that extra added touch you won’t see elsewhere.

Orientation: Landscape or Portrait.  Horizontal or Vertical.  Let us know so we can make sure that the pattern is oriented correctly, and that back saw tooth hanger is installed in the right direction way:) Ordering a square print, just select whichever your hearts desire….its all the same!!

Lets hit up some examples for a second:

The amazingly popular neutral pinstripe!

And then Innocence pinstripe, Gray and Gold Ikat and Rose Gold Honeycomb!

Now, dear friends, go forth and CREATE ALL OF THE THINGS.

We dare ya.

And if you still aren’t sure – not to worry, we still love ya anyway. Feel free to email us at:

Happy creating.

Staircase really.

Staircase Gallery Wall

Lets just take a second to appreciate this sticker that I saw the other day at Target shall we.  I mean, can I get an AMEN?!?!?!

I won’t bore you with the story about how I *literally* cried the day I left my cool car and got our minivan.  And while it’s for real the most practical car ever invented for this period of life and I’m sure I’ll miss it one day, today is not that day.  And by not that day I mean basically I hate driving it every second.

Want to hear what my hysterical sobs sounded like on that day? Ok, good.  Something like this…..”BUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT (sob, sob, sob,) even when I don’t have the kids with me (sobbbbinngggg), people will STILL KNOW I HAVE KIDS AND ITS NOT APPROPRIATE (now I am sobbing and yelling) FOR ME TO BE BLARING RAP MUSIC, SINGING AT THE TOP OF MY LUNGS WITH THE WINDOWS DOWN TRYING TO STILL BE COOL.

Now, while I WISH this was a made up story, it is not.  I blame pregnancy hormones-at the time I was 3 days away from having our third.

Moral of the story: my faith in my coolness was resolved thanks to this simple minivan window sticker. Rock on with your bad self minivan driving moms.  I know you’re still cool.

Promptly, I went home and decided that I was going to tackle the staircase gallery wall with my new cool frame set.  Its my house-its my staircase-I can be cool.

This is no joke what I was telling myself as I drug out the hammer, nails and frames. Turned on some Beyonce (on my headphones because I don’t need my 4 year old realizing how cool Queen B or their mom is just yet….) and got to work.  And then I fell in love with the result

You know how we LOVE some functional design.  We love the messy, ever changing approach to parenting.  We love inspiration of other makers.  And above all we love our families.

Lets chat about some of the stuff that makes up this staircase gallery wall. Classic black, gray, whites and silvers make up the colors of the gallery wall.

We also needed a way to make sure our littles felt included.  Adding a 16×20 cork board into the design isn’t something you typically see on a staircase gallery, but we couldn’t be happier with that choice.  Our littles LOVE it. They love that their artwork is displayed.  They love seeing it as they go up and down the stairs.  They love pointing it out to EVERYONE that walks into our house.

It also adds an unexpected pop of color into the wall and is easy to change out when new works of art come home!

Another show stopper was our adding our amazing 16×20 letter board from LetterFolk.

We had such an awesome response from the set in this staircase gallery wall on Instagram, we decided to list it for you all as well!  You can grab the 13 piece set here!

Sing on you bad ass-minivan driving-momma (and dads and anything you drive still makes you cool in our books….)

We hear your song.

We heart-eyes Little Nest Portrait Studios

Retailer Spotlight: Little Nest Portrait Studios

Can we just go a head and petition Webster Dictionary to add “heart-eyes” to the dictionary? We simply use it way too much and while we figure it’s a pretty universally accepted verb, if “photobomb”, “ghost”, “weak sauce” and “twerk” get nods, heart-eyes should absolutely be in there.

We’ve been talking about our partnership with Little Nest Portrait Studios for a few months now. It was something that has been in the works for months and we were SO excited to launch our exclusive collections with them.

They have simply amazing custom Heidi Hope backdrops created for their studios and, in partnering with them, we were able design collections and colors that are exclusive to Little Nest Portrait Studios – SO exciting! Their new Woodlands Collection is currently in their studio, and let me tell you, it’s perfection. Dying to see the custom designs in person and snag some of their amazing photography for your home? Find the closest Little Nest location, as well as locations of all of our amazing wholesalers here.

We’ve had such a great time getting to know each of the owners and their individual styles. We were recently contacted by the Montclair studio to create something custom, yet still in Little Nest theme.

You guys KNOW custom work is our dream. Enter Tribeca in our exclusive Little Nest Portrait Studios paint colors.

The Tribeca frame is handmade from high quality pine and hand-painted using Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore paint. No two exactly alike. You can expect unique sanding, glazing and distressing touches. That’s part of the charm!

Oh! You love the tee pee? Yes, ditto. We had some absolutely brilliant friends who made this via Pinterest DIY before our sweet Baby Boy J was born. Check out their inspiration here and here!  We have grand visions of dip-dying this gem.

frame-a-palooza: 4″ vs 6″-Whats better for me?

How To Choose Your Frame's Wood Width

Delta Girl Frames offers two wood widths. Frames are categorized by 2 measurements. First, the inner opening of the frame-or the picture size, such as 8×10, 11×14, 5×7, etc. The second measurement we use is 4″ or 6″ wood width and this is where many people can’t visualize the difference. Have no fear, Delta Girl is here to save the day!!

We wanted you all to see the difference, hung on a wall side by side. This is our beautiful white wash with a Colonial trim in Tradewinds. Both frames have an inner opening of 8×10 but the one on the left is made with our 6″ wood width and the one on the right with our 4″ wood width.

How To Choose Your Frame's Wood Width

Can we take a second to chat about the washed frames first?  They are beautiful and each are completely unique. (hence the hand painted) This is a perfect example of how two different white wash frames each take on super unique detail and look slightly different. Equally as beautiful as well as individually unique. Perfection-we love a good wash (the wash can be done in any color as well!  Just ask us and we’ll get you a custom listing set up!)

Right off the bat, you can see the difference in wood width size even though they are framing the exact same size picture (image courtesy of Jenn Hopkins Photography.)

How To Choose Your Frame's Wood Width

Both make a different statement and there’s a time and place for both of them!

How To Choose Your Frame's Wood Width                 How To Choose Your Frame's Wood Width

Why should I pick a 6″ frame?

-If you love a good statement piece, doesn’t matter if its a solid, wash, wood, or pattern, go with 6″ every time.

-If you have a bigger space that you are trying to fill.  I mean, bigger is always better right?

-If you have a single smaller wall and just have space for one frame.  Go for the drama of a larger piece!

-If you’re going to select these larger scale patterns (Ikat, Arrow, Crosshatch, Henna and Sevilla, Damask and Honeycomb), we STRONGLY suggest they be done in 6″. (They can be done in 4″ but the pattern will be cut off significantly and you will not get the repeating pattern on the frame. If you would like to see what Honeycomb looks like in 4″, check out this set.)

Why should I pick a 4″ frame?

-If you have a smaller space you’re trying to fill

-You want see less of a pattern or colored solid, wash or wood

-You’re wanting to mix in some classic solids, wash, or wood frames into an existing gallery wall

-You just like the look better!

Meet Sevilla

Frame Spotlight: Sevilla

We love getting to debut new patterns and this one is kind of dreamy, Delta Friends. Meet Sevilla. She’s got a bit of Spanish influence. She’s fierce and fancy and we kind of love that about her. This frame shown below is a beautiful 6″ wood width 5×7 frame with our gold trim. All of the details can be found here!

Frame Spotlight: Sevilla

(Thanks to Lori Nordstrum Photo for the image showcase!)

Our frames are finished with different trims and we decided it was time to showcase some of them and show you all just how perfectly each goes with a frame.  This bold patterned frame can handle so many different trims and colors.

First, a no trim frame just so you can see the pattern in all of its beauty!

Frame Spotlight: Sevilla

Ok, now lets see what happens when we pop a little tiny dot trim on her in a coordinating color.

Beautiful, basic and easy. It showcases this pattern in all its glory.

    Frame Spotlight: Sevilla

But, what happens if we like the bigger trims?? Here’s the same frame with a coordinating black trim in our larger crown trim.  The Sevilla takes on a whole new look with the addition of the thicker frame. A show stopper for sure!

Frame Spotlight: Sevilla

Since color is kind of our middle name, we wanted to show you this pattern with a colored trim.  So many people are worried about making the trim a color and “taking away” from the frame pattern.  Not possibly, my friends, just not possible.  This is our large dot trim in green… but oh how this could easily be a happy pink, bold yellow, or sassy blue. Any pop of color for the win!

Frame Spotlight: Sevilla

And last, we wanted to show you the Sevilla frame finished with a traditional gold trim but in one of our thicker trim styles.  This lotus trim was just recently added to our line up and to say we’re obsessed with it is a mild understatement.  Floral on floral, yes please.

Frame Spotlight: Sevilla

Don’t be afraid of the trim!  Don’t be afraid of color!  Find your personal style and go with it.  It will look absolutely amazing any way you finish it!  If you decide you want to grab this gem, but prefer a different trim style or color other than whats listed just let us know at checkout and we’ll get it changed over for you!

Happy trimming! We can’t wait to see what you all put together!

We’re in LOVE with you!

Hello our loves-just incase we haven’t told you recently, we think you’re kind of great.  We’re so in awe with every design consultation and every custom gallery wall that goes out.  Its you that makes our hearts go thump-thump and so we want to say thanks and show you some of our most recent designs!

Up first, our beautiful 16 Piece Neutral Stairwell Set.  This stairwell set is one of our favorites.  Its a perfect mix of neutrals with tons of mix and match sizes.  You can hang the whole set together in a stairwell or long hall or break it up into several different sets around your house.  Mix in some monograms, little signs and design elements and you’ve got yourself a beautiful gallery wall!

How To Decorate With The 16 Piece Neutral Stairwell Set From Delta Girl Frames

Up next is one of our most favorite custom consults we have done in a very long time.  This GIANT curved stairwell was screaming for a giant mix of frames.  We took a neutral concepts and turned it up with graphic punches and lots of metallic flairs.  Blacks, whites, ombre, gold and touches of some gold leafing as well.  We are obsessed with taking these massive curved walls and designing something that fit into that space.  Lots of little frames create a large gallery wall.

This mantle makes our hearts go pitter patter.  We’re in love with the clean boho feel of it.  Add some pumpkins, candles, little knickknacks and some beautiful family pictures and done!  Its clean and easy for a space that is always hard to design for.

Our final wall that we’re swooning over is a big statement,  single,  stand alone frame.  Our gray wash is always one of our favorites.  Getting to match the trim with our clients walls is a perfect way to draw your colors back into your new frames!

Apply for our 2017 Brand Ambassador Program

2017 Brand Ambassador Program

The application period is currently CLOSED.  Please sign up for our emails to be notified when the program is seeking new applications!

Well, friends, we’re about to try something new and crazy this year and we’re hoping you’re going to LOVE it!  We are launching a pilot program that we’re calling our Brand Ambassador Program.  Basically, our walls look like swiss cheese because of all of the nail holes in them and our husbands around these parts aren’t *completely* thrilled with the constant “can you fill the holes and paint it” upkeep:)  So, we’re trying a Brand Ambassador Program on for size to instead give you a fun chance to show off your Delta Girl style. The full details of our program are below — along with the link to apply! Since it’s a new thang – we are only opening up a handful of spots this first go around.  We’re keeping the program purposefully small to be able to make sure we have it right.  We don’t want to drown in a sea of frames and miss out on the client service aspect of the program that will help make it great.  As long as it goes well, we’ll be launching more spots later this year!  If you apply and aren’t selected this round, PLEASE know we still love you TONS and please, PLEASE apply again.  We will happily review any and all applications we receive during our open all call. Style mavens, home decor gurus, photographers, shop owners, bloggers, and even current DGF wholesalers we’re talkin’ to you!

Whatcha Get:

  • 50% off all frame purchases (excludes collaboration pieces) – for the full 2017 calendar year! WAAHATT!!!! Yes, we REALLY just said 50% off!!
  • One free design consultation of a wall (or staircase) of your choice
  • Status as official DGF Brand Ambassador Bad Ass. (Official DGF BABA status)-We’d love to feature you on our website and cross promote on our social media platforms.  Current wholesalers are welcome to apply!

What we ask in return:

  • Your walls and pretty style to display our frames
  • Full size, high-resolution photos (either JPG or RAW) of each frame and gallery wall pieces ordered – with the rights to edit and share as needed.
    • No iphone photos please – big girl cameras are a must
    • You’re welcome to edit the images or send them to us as is and we’ll take care of the edits!
    • We prefer natural light photos – brighter is better
    • Pictures from different angles, pulled back images of the frames in full rooms, close ups of frame details, closer views of frames hung together to see mixes of patterns and colors
    • Full frames are always better.. show off your fam, photography, or favorite print – fill ’em and style them up to give us the fully styled effect -the more “styled” the images are, the better!!!!!
  • Promotion of our frames and gallery walls – can be exclusive to the photos you take on your social accounts.
  • Feedback on the program, how to make improvements and any additional input you have as a client!

Other silly rules:

  • Cannot promote competing frame companies during your time as a DGF Brand Ambassador
  • Applications are open from Sunday, January 22 until Sunday January 29.  After the window closes, we will review all applications and notify you by email by February 1st.

Here’s the kind of pics we’d like:
